To mark its 50th anniversary, BEAMS has teamed up with HOKA. What is the “Bondi 7,” inspired by Japanese Zen gardens?

BEAMS has reimagined HOKA’s classic road running shoe, the “Bondi,” which features top-of-the-line cushioning. This collaboration was made possible to celebrate BEAMS’ 50th anniversary.

The design theme was inspired by the serene aesthetic found in Japanese Zen gardens. It draws inspiration from the play of light and shadow in dry landscape gardens and rock gardens, as well as the patina that develops on the wood used in the buildings over time.

“The upper features an original two-tone camouflage pattern inspired by the theme of ”harmony with nature.” If you look closely, you’ll notice that the 〈BEAMS〉 and 〈HOKA〉 logos are subtly hidden within the pattern.

At 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7—the pre-release date—a live performance by contemporary artist Ryoten Ogata, who shares the aesthetic sensibilities of kare-sansui (dry landscape gardens), is scheduled to take place at “BEAMS Harajuku.” This special event will bring the shoes’ unique aesthetic to life throughout the entire venue.
