What is the New Vintage anyway?

In the 1990s, the term "vintage" was used to describe vintage clothing that did not meet the definition of "antique," but still had value, as opposed to "antique" clothing that was 100 years old. Nowadays, there is a movement to find new value in "new vintage," even in old clothes from the 1980s onward, which used to be called "regular" vintage clothes. In this project, four vintage clothing stores with different styles propose new ways to enjoy vintage clothing. Each of them will talk about the charm of vintage clothing with their own sense of style.

. Last time, you introduced us to a camera bag from a well-known brand. Now, what is the new vintage item this time?

This time we would like to introduce Bass Pro Shops. I am sure you all know that the logo of Bass Pro Shops has become popular in recent years. I have even seen girls wearing caps in my hometown of Musashi-Kosugi (laughs).

-. Indeed, we often see items sampling the logo. What is Bass Pro Shops anyway?

Established in 1972 in Missouri, U.S.A. . Under the trade name "Outdoor World," the company operates a number of huge outdoor goods retail stores across the U.S. , which is like a super-scaled-up version of "Jyoshuya" in Japan. A river flows through the vast sales floor, black bass are kept in an aquarium, and fish dishes can be enjoyed at the attached restaurant while watching the fish swim by. . In short, it's entertainment, isn't it? Some call it the Disneyland of the outdoor world (laughs). (Laughs). That's why this is a private brand of this company.

-Have they been circulating in the used clothing market for some time?

I used to stock caps from time to time, but they don't turn up much, even though they are supposed to be distributed in large quantities. There are not many people who wear them as a fashion item in the first place, so they are probably thrown away when they are worn out. Moreover, most of the current products are a bit inert, with large logo designs on trucker caps and T-shirts. That's a great way to get excited when you wear them when fishing, but it's more difficult to incorporate them into your daily life. So, I would like to focus on "non-logo wear" such as this.

. - I didn't know there was such a thing. And even small things.

They have a full line of small items such as fishing sets and mugs for kids, and they have a wide range of brands from river & ocean fishing, hunting, outdoor activities, to furniture and interior design, right, Coco? . Going back to the item, it originally came with a hood, but I cut it myself to customize it. Cutting off the hood made it easier to wear, but the raglan sleeves and armholes are so thick that when I put it on, I look like Ben Affleck (laughs). You can find red and green bodies quite often, but this real tree camo pattern is hard to find, as Mr. Kurihara of Mr. Clean introduced in Vol. 28, but hunting camo patterns are great. GORE-TEX type is also available.

-When was this item made?

The tag is marked "OUTDOOR" , which is probably from the late 1980s to early 1990s, since most of them are made in the U.S.A. . The current product is exactly the same design, but it has a "RED HEAD" tag. It is now under the umbrella of "Bass Pro Shops," but it is a prestigious hunting brand that has existed for a long time. Incidentally, Cabelas, a popular outdoor brand in the vintage clothing industry, is one of the brands that was recently acquired and added to the company's umbrella. It is interesting to know the background of this brand, isn't it? And here is another one.

-Cole seems to be easy to use in general.

This one is probably from the late 80s or early 90s. . It is a blouson with a simple design, but the body is quilted nylon. It has warmth retention and a liner-like atmosphere, but it is not a system that can be incorporated into outerwear, rather, it is a good, versatile, ordinary silhouette that can be said to be the key point.

-Well, both times I was asked to make selections with fishing as the keyword, and both times it was fresh and interesting.

. I have also been making items under the concept of fishing for my original brand, and the response has been very positive. They are full of details, including functional multiple pockets, and are easy to incorporate into fashion. On the other hand, ordinary items with no distinctive details, such as the ones introduced here, are not particularly popular (laughs). But that is why they have the advantage of being "ordinary items," and I am personally very interested in them.
