&Paul Smith" is a project launched last spring to nurture young creators.
This is not just a collaboration, but an initiative for the future in which Paul himself will provide guidance and advice, as well as grants.
The first phase was introduced in this article.
For this second edition, Paul's partner was the New York-based brand Commission.
Commission was started in 2018 by Dylan Cao from Vietnam and Jin Kay from South Korea. They create clothes with an East Asian nostalgic atmosphere added to a modern fashion sense, and are now emerging. The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) cooperated in the selection of this brand.
Paul said of the Commissions selection, "Being exposed to new ideas is one of the reasons I started &Paul Smith, and the Commissions are full of them. I take great pride in my archives, and I am very pleased that Dylan and Zinn were inspired by past collections and put their own unique twist on them.
The two members of the "commissions" used two things as references when creating their collection.
One is "Father & Son," a collection of photographs taken by Paul and his father, Harold Smith. The background for this book was that Dylan and Jin also originally got inspiration for their creations from their parents' wardrobes in family photos, and this one book became the starting point for this project.
Another was the archives of Paul Smith in Nottingham. The main collections from the 1997-98 and 2002-03 seasons caught their attention.
The late 90s Paul Smith archive has a richness that resonates with us, a mashup of preppy, sensual, and post-punk, but with a very functional and romantic masculinity," said Dylan and Zinn. Dylan and Jin.
Thus, they and Paul's sensibilities merged, and what was born was 22 pieces of particular attention to detail.
In addition to wool/cashmere overcoats, wool suits, leather field jackets, and other clothes that will be loved by all generations, there are also printed T-shirts, track pants, row denim, and other items with the essence of the street.
The capsule collection, titled "Commission & Paul Smith," was created by Paul Smith'sOnline Storeand is now on sale at the Ginza, Marunouchi, Shibuya, and Osaka stores.
Be sure to watch out for the collaboration between the designers of the future and Paul Smith.
