In the 1990s, the term "vintage" was used to describe vintage clothing that did not meet the definition of "antique," but still had value, as opposed to "antique" clothing that was 100 years old. Nowadays, there is a movement to find new value in "new vintage," even in old clothes from the 1980s onward, which used to be called "regular" vintage clothes. In this project, four vintage clothing stores with different styles propose new ways to enjoy vintage clothing. Each of them will talk about the charm of vintage clothing with their own sense of style.
This is the 10th season, which started with all new stores! The 76th issue features for the second time Mr. Takahisa Sakamoto of "Warming" in Shoinjinsha-mae. What new vintage items will he introduce?

Vol.76_Fleece Convertible Jacket
-This is your first entry in two and a half years, since Season 2. Have there been any changes in the new vintage-like items you carry in your "warming" section?
We previously introduced DUCK HEAD and ORVIS, but the basics have not changed, and L.L. Bean is as popular as ever. However, the overall size seems to be getting smaller. The 90's items that have been popular for the past few years are often in large sizes, and the vintage clothing industry is likely to see more people paying attention to items in sizes that were previously avoided because of the popularity of L to XL sizes, and I think this could be an opportunity for a new vintage to be born.
I see. Taking this into consideration, what are some of the new vintage items that you would like to introduce this time?
Recently, I have been interested in convertible fleece jackets. This fall and winter, fleece seems to be the trend in Japan for the first time in a long time, but in the U.S., fleece wear is a staple of the standard, and people love it as a common part of their daily lives. . It is lightweight, not stiff on the shoulders, and easy to layer. This is probably the reason why fleece is so popular in the U.S., where temperatures vary widely from place to place. They are easy to care for, too, because all you have to do is throw them in the washing machine, and there is no need for maintenance.
. but it is also a convertible, which is why it is available at .......
As you can see, the sleeves are detachable and can be removed to be worn as a vest. Vests are popular in the U.S., a car-based society, because they are easy to regulate body temperature. And if you add the functionality of fleece to it, as mentioned earlier, it must be even more convenient. It is a very rationalistic American idea, isn't it? (Laughs) So, I prepared two pieces that looked interesting. The first one is from "Cabela's" here.
Cabelas convertible fleece jacket ¥16,500 (warming)
-This is an outdoor brand that I have mentioned briefly in this Series before.
Although the company is now owned by Bass Pro Shops, it is a long-established company founded in 1961 that started out by selling fishing hooks. As a serious hunting brand, this vest has gun patches on the shoulders, which I thought was "typical". In terms of style, it is similar to the "Orvis" brand.
-When was this item made?
It was made in the early 00's, I guess. It is strange that the fleece material is softer on the surface than on the back where it touches the skin, but what is more unusual is the ribbing on the neck and sleeves. It is thought to be a detail to keep the heat inside the clothes while hunting and to prevent pests from entering when hiding in the bushes.
. I'm also interested in the loop at the end of this sleeve.
It will probably become a liner when combined with the jacket (sold separately). As for other details, the piping-like treatment on the sleeve ends and other parts of the main body is stylish, and the silhouette with a slightly narrowed hem is also in the current mood. The design line of "Cabelas" doesn't change greatly depending on the age of the item, so if you find an unusual item like this, it's a good idea to check it out.
Next is ....... Whoa, do you recognize this logo: ......?
Mountain Dew convertible fleece jacket ¥15,400 (warming)
Yes, it is Mountain Dew, a carbonated beverage sold in Japan. Originally born in the U.S. in the 1940s, it is manufactured and sold in its home country by PepsiCo, Inc. The jacket we prepared this time is a rather rare item, and at first we thought it might be a not-for-sale item for the staff, but it is very elaborately made, with the original back tag and zip head.
. - There was a time when "Mountain Dew" was a sponsor of NASCAR (NASCAR), and it is possible that it is for team staff in such sports.
Indeed . A lightweight fleece vest is also useful when riding a bicycle, so it could be a possible MTB team jacket. . The highlight is the diagonal switch in the body. It is rare to find this type of jacket with zippered pockets, so this is something to check out.
-This zip is also very light, is it metal?
These are called VISLON zippers, which are made by injection molding resin. They are as durable as metal zippers, yet extremely lightweight, so they are often used in outdoor wear and bags. Moreover, since it is kneaded into the resin itself, it can be freely varied in color. Is this silver color inspired by an aluminum can? The combination of the switch and the zipper gives it a Y2K-like mood, making it a very modern design.
. - A convertible that can be enjoyed as both a jacket and a vest is a good thing, as it makes you feel like you're getting something out of it.
. They are also practical when enjoying small outdoor activities such as hiking and camping. . In winter, when the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors is large, I think it is useful in daily life as well. Although the season is a bit limited, layering a fleece vest with a T-shirt or a long T is also a standard style that many Americans wear. It's easy, it's rough, and I recommend it.
Takahisa Sakamoto / Owner, Warming
Born in Chiba Prefecture, he started an account on Instagram in May 2016 to introduce vintage clothing he had bought and collected. The store offers a wide range of items, from regular items to rare items, with a focus on 90s US brands. The store is popular not only for its selection but also for its business style, which is open only on weekends and holidays.
